Keeping a bike fitter dealer locator up to date is no easy task, especially when records in it go back to the start of the internet and websites. Yes, Fit Kit Systems is that old, or should I say “experienced”. Bike retailers and fitters come and go, ownership changes, skills and services are updated – but the information in the database doesn’t get automatically updated, making it frustrating for cyclists using the locator feature to find a fitter. We also wanted a better way to respond to email and phone requests from cyclists inquiring if we could recommend a fitter near them with a certain tool, service or reputation.
Although there are several Find a Fitter locators in existence, they are all specific to a bike brand, fit school, or fit technology. This doesn’t help the cycling consumer and potential bike fit customer search for the most appropriate service for their needs, as many bike fitters have credentials and tools from different places, and may offer a range of services. Bike fitting services can be found not only in bike shops, but at independent fit studios, in physical therapy practices, at rehab centers and through coaching and conditioning services.
To resolve these issues and provide a better search option for cyclists looking for a bike fit, we created a new Find a Fitter directory at findafitter.bike and invite all bike fitters to list and promote their services through it. Because listings will be removed if not reviewed and updated annually, the directory will be self-maintaining and current.
Find a Fitter is open to all businesses (bike shops, PT’s, coaches, independent fitters and others) offering fitting services regardless of fitting education and certification, services, tools, or location. Fitters can add a basic listing for free, or subscribe to a low cost monthly plan to add additional features and information that the cyclist can use to narrow their search results. This can include a fitter’s credentials, fitting technologies, related services, and more. Cyclists who have had a fit can post reviews to help inform others of the experience and benefits.
We will be adding more information to help inform and educate cyclists about bike fitting and the options available to them so they are able to select an appropriate bike fit service or bike fitter for their needs.
It is going to require a sizeable number of listings to make this of genuine value to cyclists and gain their attention in online search results. Our first step is to invite listings, and then we will bring the directory to the attention of cyclists through promotion in the cycling media. Any suggestions for improvements and further refinements are welcome, and we can be contacted through the Find a Fitter website.
