I failed to import my previous data during installation of Fit Kit Pro 5. How do I get my old data back now?
As my cousin use to say, “If at first you don’t succeed, try reading the instructions.” Unfortunately, at this point you’d have to start over which isn’t necessary. This will get you back on track:
- If you haven’t already done so, follow the special “Preparation for Previous Users Only” part of the Installation Instructions included with your software.
- Launch Fit Kit Pro 5.
- Go to File > Dealer Setup…
- Click Delete at the top right. (Yes, you will lose the dealer information you just entered.)
- When asked, “Do you really want to delete this record?”, click OK.
- Exit or quit Fit Kit Pro.
- Restart Fit Kit Pro. Now that there is no dealer record, Fit Kit Pro 5 will start the installation process over. This is your second chance to import data from a previous version of Fit Kit Pro.
- Your dealer information will be restored as it was in your previous version of Fit Kit Pro. You should still review the settings for any changes necessary. Your logo will need to be re-input into Fit Kit Pro.

How Do I Move My Fit Kit Pro 4 Data Files to a New Computer?
These instructions are for moving data files to a new computer only. If you are also upgrading from a previous version of Fit Kit Pro to v.4, please refer to the next question.
- Install the Fit Kit Pro software on the new computer.
- On the old computer, locate the files “Fit Kit Pro 4.4DD” and “Fit Kit Pro 4.4DR” in “My Computer”\C:\Program Files\Fit Kit Pro 4. (If you can’t see .exe, .4DD, .4DR, etc. at the end of file names, please turn extensions on.) Note: “My Computer” denotes the name of your computer which may have a different name.
- Copy these two files to a CD or some other removable media -OR- move them to the “My Documents” folder of the new computer via your local network if you have one.
- On the new computer, locate the folder “My Computer”\C:\Program Files\Fit Kit Pro 4.*
- Delete the files “Fit Kit Pro 4.4DD” and “Fit Kit Pro 4.4DR“. (These are empty files from the new installation.)
- Place your files from the old computer into this Fit Kit Pro 4 folder by one of two options: 1) Copy them from the CD or other removable media you used in step 3; or, 2) Move them from the “My Documents” folder of your new computer (see step 3).
- Your data files have been successfully moved!
- Start up Fit Kit Pro on the new computer and take a look at Dealer Setup, Fittings, Bicycles, etc. to make sure everything looks correct.
- When you’re sure everything is working properly, uninstall Fit Kit Pro from your old computer since your licensing agreement only allows the software on one computer at a time.
*Although we do not support Fit Kit Pro 4 on Windows 7, some dealers say it is working for them. Use it at your own risk. In this case, you may find that Windows 7 is storing Fit Kit Pro 4 in a ‘hidden’ folder here: “My Computer”\C:\Users…\AppData\Fit Kit Pro\”. Please Note: Fit Kit Pro 5 is compatible with Windows 7 so we highly recommend that you upgrade.

What does this error message mean? “No more room to save a record.”
Fit Kit Pro is unable to save your record in the .4DD* data file for one of the following reasons:
- The .4DD data file is located on a volume that is full.
Solution: Move Fit Kit Pro to a volume with more room. - The .4DD data file is locked or is located on a volume that is locked.
Solution: Unlock Fit Kit Pro’s .4DD file or unlock the volume it is on. - The .4DD data file is located on a volume that the user does not have permission to write to.
Solution: Either update the user’s permissions or move Fit Kit Pro to that user’s account on your computer. - The .4DD data file is corrupted. This is the most common reason for this error message. Fit Kit Pro probably quit unexpectedly due to a power outage which damaged the data file. In any case, verify the first three options are not generating this error before assuming a corrupted data file.
Solution: If you have a recent backup, restore your data file. If not, repair your existing data file instead. It is also possible, but less likely, that your Fit Kit Pro software was corrupted.
*If you can’t see the .4DD extension, please turn extensions on in Windows.)
How do I restore my data file from a backup?
This is the recommended procedure for restoring your data if you know it’s been corrupted. If you don’t have a recent backup, you may try repairing your existing data file instead.
- In “My Computer”\C:\Program Files\Fit Kit Pro 4, locate the files “Fit Kit Pro 4.4DD” and “Fit Kit Pro 4.4DR“. (If you can’t see .exe, .4DD, .4DR, etc. at the end of file names, please turn extensions on.) Note: “My Computer” denotes the name of your computer which may have a different name.*
- Drag these two files to the desktop. (Make sure you know where they are in case you need them later.)
- Leave the Fit Kit Pro 4 folder open.
- From the Start Menu, go to “All Programs”.
- Locate ‘Fit Kit Systems’ and choose “4D Backup”.
- Enter your name and company name as requested and click “OK”.
- Click the “Restore” button in the window that appears.
- Select the most recent .4BK backup file from your backup volume. (The most recent backup is the one with the largest number.)
- Click the “Open” button and the Restore window will appear.
- Un-check the “Structure file” box, check the “Verify” box, and then click the “Restore” button.
- Save the restored file to your desktop.
- Close “4D Backup”.
- Locate the “Fit Kit.RST” folder on your desktop and open it.
- Select the .4DD and .4DR files and drag or copy them into the original Fit Kit Pro 4 folder that you left open in step 3.
- Delete the empty folder “Fit Kit.RST”.
- Launch Fit Kit Pro 4 (the .EXE file) and verify that your data has been restored to the point of your selected backup.
- If you’re satisfied with your restoration, you may delete the files you dragged to your desktop in step 2. If you’re not satisfied, you may put the .4DD and .4DR files from your desktop back in their original location and try to repair your data file instead.
4D Backup Note: The instructions in the Help Tutorials of some versions of Fit Kit Pro have an error. 4D Backup is not inside the Fit Kit Pro folder as stated; it is in the Start Menu under Fit Kit Systems as indicated above in steps 4 and 5. We apologize for the confusion.
*Although we do not support Fit Kit Pro 4 on Windows 7, some dealers say it is working for them. Use it at your own risk. In this case, you may find that Windows 7 is storing Fit Kit Pro 4 in a ‘hidden’ folder here: “My Computer”\C:\Users…\AppData\Fit Kit Pro\
Fit Kit Pro Isn’t Working Correctly Anymore — What Do I Do?
Follow these instructions if you are getting incorrect results or Fit Kit Pro won’t launch at all. Most likely the program unexpectedly quit due to a power outage or conflict on your computer. This will replace the Fit Kit Pro program, not your data.
- If Fit Kit Pro will still open, do a backup when prompted as you quit out.
(Make sure you know where they are for later retrieval.)
- Leave the Fit Kit Pro 4 folder open.
- Reinstall Fit Kit Pro from your original program disks.
- In the Fit Kit Pro 4 folder you left open, delete the files “Fit Kit Pro 4.4DD” and “Fit Kit Pro 4.4DR“. (These are empty files from the new installation.)
- Copy the two files from the Desktop in Step 3 to the Fit Kit Pro 4 folder to replace the files you just deleted.
- Start up Fit Kit Pro to see if the problem(s) you were having before are resolved.
If your problem(s) are not resolved, try the procedure for repairing corrupted data files.
How Do I Repair Corrupted Data Files?
These instructions only apply to dealers that are getting error messages from Fit Kit Pro that their data is corrupt or that Fit Kit Systems’ technical support has told you to try this procedure. - Start 4D Tools.
- Locate and open the Fit Kit Pro 4 folder in “My Computer”\C:\Program Files\Fit Kit Pro 4.*

- Click the “Maintain” tab.
- Click the “Check All” button.
- If 4D Tools says, “Everything seems OK”, stop and contact tech support at (800) 434-8548. If it finds problems, continue to step 10.
- Click the “Repair” tab.
- Click the “Repair All” button.
- You will be asked to name the repaired data (.4DD) file now. It should default to something and you can just use the default name.
