The Rotational Adjustment Device™ (RAD) is a bike fitting tool that has been recognized by cycling technicians, coaches and clinical professionals as the best and most reliable method for setting the cleat rotational position on the cycling shoe to allow for the rider’s lower leg to rotate naturally, thus reducing or preventing equipment induced stresses into the ankle, knee and hip joints.
The RAD was first developed by Bill Farrell of the New England Cycling Academy in the early 1980’s to locate the position for nailed on cleats. Since then it’s design and application have been through multiple revisions and upgrades, and it is compatible with the most common pedal/cleat systems in use today.
Although setting cleat rotation is imperative for a cyclist using fixed (zero float) cleats, it is just as important for aligning floating cleats. Relying on intrinsic system float is not sufficient to ensure a cleat is centered in the pedal in accordance with the riders natural lower leg rotation that occurs during leg extension and flexion through the pedal stroke.
No other piece of bike fitting equipment on the market today, including digital 3D motion capture systems, replicates the information, insight and ease of rotational adjustment provided by the RAD. This is a must have tool for the problem solving bike fitter and cycling analysis technician. With the RAD you can assess the effect of adding (or removing) orthotics, shims or wedges on the riders leg action, and correct the cleat rotation in response to these interventions.
The Cleat Adapter plates are designed to accommodate as many different cleat types as possible. You can fit most clipless (click in) road bike pedal systems with the Universal Road Adapter. This includes:
- Shimano SPD SL
- Time RXS and Iclic
- Look Keo and Delta
- Wellgo / Expedo (Look compatible)
- Exustar (Look Compatible). EPS- R, but not the R2 series.
This adapter is NOT compatible with the cleats supplied with the Garmin Vector pedals, which are Exustar ARCR2.
In addition, the full kit also includes:
- Universal Mountain Adapters
- SPD (mountain) Adapters
- Speedplay Zero Adapters
All of these connect to the Universal Road Adapter.
All the components of your RAD Kit come in a sturdy, padded tool case.
Choose from either the Full Kit (all adapters) or the Base Kit (with Universal Road Adapter only). You can purchase additional adapters separately.
