Description
Knowing the relationship between the thigh and the inseam assists in establishing a sound bike fit, as this relationship influences the recommended seat tube angle and saddle fore/aft position.
Two riders with the same inseam length but different proportions between the lower leg and thigh require a different saddle setback to optimize their lower body joint angles.
This tool determines the thigh/inseam ratio and recommended seat tube angle, which along with saddle height and fore/aft, will determine the saddle position and allow for correct rider positioning over the bottom bracket and crank.
The S.T.A.D.T. utilizes a laser measurement system which makes obtaining the femur measurement more precise than traditional methods of direct measurement. The femur measurement is obtained indirectly by measuring the lower leg length from the tibial styloid process to the floor, and relating this to a separate inseam measurement, obtained using the Inseam Measuring Device.
By referencing the two measurements on the STADT Chart the fitting technician will obtain the best starting seat tube angle for the rider. This is vital information for custom frame builders, and can also provide a diagnostic input for retrofitting riders on existing bikes where the seat tube angle may be different to what is recommended for the rider.
The S.T.A.D.T. device may also be used to determine other positioning parameters, including dynamic observation of the medial/lateral tracking of the knee, and lower leg.
As with all of our tools, the STADT is accurate and easy to use.
STADT Kit includes:
- Footboard (with pre-drilled holes to locate the STADT base block)
- Base Block with calibrated scale
- Laser
- Joint Line Tool
- Seat Tube Angle Chart
