Form Mountain Bike Cleat Extender Plates – SPD

If you ride MTB or gravel type shoes which use an SPD type cleat, and want to experiment with a more rearward cleat position, these plates are compatible with most non-casual MTB and gravel shoes, and will give you a wide range of adjustment to dial in the exact amount of setback you want. Like our V2 shim they are “walkable” and due to their curved shape, maintain very close contact with the foot.

Benefits of a Cleat Extender Plate

Modern bike fitting practices have evolved, especially with the advent of ultra endurance cycling and new knowledge relating to better foot positioning on the pedal. Moving the cleats back towards the mid foot can offer a number of benefits:

• It reduces the foot's "lever" effect making the foot more stable over the pedals
• It will reduce demand on the ankle and calf muscles which is highly beneficial for endurance cycling
• It can reduce or eliminate hot foot by moving pressure point away from the pedal spindle
• Useful if your existing cleat holes are located too far forward on the shoe and don't allow you to position your cleats in the "modern standard" position

Specifications

The FORM MTB extender plates provide between 12mm and 22mm of cleat setback and is compatible with any SPD style cleat, including Shimano, Look and Time. The unit is screwed down using the four standard bolt holes on the shoe, with the cleat attaching to the plate. Additionally, it features two grub screw holes at the rear which serve to restrict plate rotation.
